Today I shivered and thought, here it goes, au revoir l’été !
The descent into the hunker-down approaches and I am looking forward to diving in.
Summer has been spent, so I initiated the hunker-down by updating the timeline.
There you will find all the musical missions from this past period, and here I will let you know how it all went.
Album Release
It began with the release of SAFAS vol. II – Seriously Ridiculous, Ridiculously Serious; the second installment in 3S-AMI-5A’s blender of sound and spacetime. To a heartwarming reception.
It’s always a bit nervewracking to release an album without “proper” social media but thanks to Bandcamp the curious ears always seem to find their way without necessarily knowing me, thank you ears of old and new, you mean the world.
Time travelling
For a long time I have playfully stated that musicians are time-travellers, but in this season the topic was ripe at hand. Every gig was with completely different music, but they all touched on imagining a particular period of time, some embracing or imagining a particular place.
As a hobby deep-diver, I always enjoy working with people who are experts in other fields and transform their research, ideas, and locations into music. The highlights of this fruit this summer was teaching myself to play a replica of a 35,000 year old flute, supporting a processional for a violet that’s a canary in the goldmine, and getting to collectively improvise on my 1928 conn chu berry alto saxophone with a 1652 Séverin organ. timeline
Teaching
I’ve been teaching since 2016 and have always been lucky with students, I think anybody who is crazy enough to play the saxophone is a kindred spirit.
A new season has begun to unfold, having dipped my toes back into giving workshops, and finally made a diy “SEO optimized” music teacher website for where I am living.
But the most fun is helping my students hunt down the good 2nd hand saxophones in our region.
And now what?
I am pleased to announce a new member of my family – a 1970s mexican conn BARI SAX. We are still getting to know each other but it’s an exciting addition.
We (Chaeyeon Lee and yours truly) are also excited to say that our Deer You concert has been rescheduled for February 9th 2026. This will take place in Maastricht at Lumière Cinema’s Jazz Nights as originally planned. We are looking forward to seeing you deers.
And if you are in Maastricht and craving to hear me host an evening of standards, I will be a guest performer at a residency in Founder’s Bar – Lage Barakken 10, on October 29th 2025, music starting at 19.00 until 22.00, I’m going Billy Stayhorn and gentle giants.

Otherwise, I am craving to go acoustic after this album release, but also many of my musical co-conspirators live far away, and recording and mish-mashing has kept us together. So we’ll see what happens.
