Mx. J – Music Lessons and Workshops

a.k.a

GUIDED FEARLESS MUSIC MAKING!

A “Guided Fearless Music Making!” session in September 2021, at the Connect Festival, Innbetween, Maastricht, NL.
The summer 2020 “recital” of my private students (some from the Académie de musique de Montréal) – a saxophone orchestra at Parc Lafontaine.

Any musical abilities and ages are welcome.

(I have taught ages 9 to 93!)

I share saxophone specifics, “how to jam,” theory, and general creative encouragement.

My students work hard because we work with the sound they want to hear.

So,

what do you want to learn?

to play like the riff in Careless Whisper?

to write your own song?

to perform at a special event?

to have your midlife crisis jamming on the saxophone?

I got you.

I speak English and French.
En een beetje Nederlands.

Testimonials:

I took my first saxophone lessons with Julia. I was a complete beginner and In retrospect I must say that these lessons were perfect for me. There was no predefined learning method  that I had to follow. Instead , she adapted her teaching to my interests showing her great flexibility. Great teacher!

I’ve been working with Julia since 2019 and even during the COVID-19 quarantine. Her patience and guidance has been especially helpful in making me relax during these stressful times.
Julia has an amazing talent to adapt to each situation and tailor her lessons to each individual.
Since my very first day, she has understood my level of saxophone competency skills and adapted a training regime which fits perfectly with my personal goals as well as my professional schedule.
This was truly tested during COVID and I’m really happy to say that she has adapted well and can still provide quality lessons remotely.
I will be continuing working with Julia for as long as she provides lessons.

Julia not only taught me how to push my saxophone playing to new levels, she helped me progress as a composer by making me think about music in many new different ways. She always took the care to adapt her teaching to my needs, with a great affinity to many musical genres. Her generosity in sharing her knowledge and creativity have been invaluable in my growth as an artist. Plus, she’s super fun and every class was a blast! Thank you Julia!

Je remercie Julia qui m’a permis de me remettre en selle au saxo et apprendre ma musique de mariage pour une petite surprise aux invités! Merci beaucoup Julia!

PRINCIPLES:

Art education must be accessible, see a learner as a subject and not an object, and allow them to be self directed in their learning, whether it’s cultivated in classes or mentorship.

Musical education must include the body, its senses, and acknowledge cultural context in a foundation to theory and performance.

Because with disciplined forgiveness, resilience, and observation, you can separate judgment from the fear of it, letting your music be boundless.
